We're expats, just like you

Being an Expat in Portugal we experience every day that Portugal is an amazing country. We enjoy the most fulfilling experiences every day and we enjoy the friendliness of the Portuguese people. We also learned that despite many Portuguese lessons, language can be an issue in our everyday life. Especially in a crisis situation, connecting in your mother tongue is helpful and lowers the stress. Things happens every day, even in the Algarve. From a broken hip to broken pellet burner and from selecting the best medical insurance to picking the best dog trainer; finding a specialist is always a challenge.

A medical emergency!

Last year, my partner suddenly had medical problems. These problems lead to severe pains. Pains so intense that he could not sleep or sit. Serious stuff. We were quite panicky and did not know who to go to or where to ask. It was the start of a long search for the right doctors, neurologists, ophthalmologists, rheumatologist etc. A search in the public system, in the private system and all over the Algarve, from East to West. Luckily his situation is much better now. But I remember the lonely feeling of not knowing where to go. All of a sudden, the Algarve felt not so comfortable. A reliable expat directory would have helped a lot. And so ExpatAlgarve was born.

We're on a mission
